Due to continuous growth, we are currently looking for dynamic Estimators to support our Franchise Projects team. There are multiple opportunities –both permanent & fixed term (12 months).


The Franchise Projects portfolio includes all projects delivered by Metro Trains on behalf of the Department of Transport (Formerly PTV). You will be working alongside a high performing, dynamic, solution orientated team delivering packages of projects within Metro’s Franchise Portfolio. You will work alongside team members with a wide range of diverse skillsets that will further hone and refine your own.

Reporting into the Estimating Manager, in this role you will be responsible for supporting the Estimating process throughout a project duration (from inception to close out), including the development of project estimates and providing construction phase support during delivery.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Liaise with all disciplines leads, program managers, project managers, procurement officers and/or project officers to collect, review and select appropriate basis of Estimating.
  • Prepare estimates and forecasts in format able to be utilised for value engineering, options analysis or alternative presentations to suit MTM Client or MTM procurement strategy
  • Generate Target Cost Estimates for the MTM business (including Projects, Operations and Finance)
  • Where available take-off of drawings / designs / mud maps.
  • Participate in tender evaluation process including preparation of tender analysis.
  • Prepare benchmarking and unit rate data and utilise as basis of Estimating where possible.
  • Report and present estimates at a summary level to senior management on a regular basis.
  • Participate in estimate reviews with Estimating team including presentation of estimates.
  • Provide Estimating support for MTM procurement including commitment to MTM’s procurement purchasing policies.

About You

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Estimating / Cost Planning / Cost Control / Quantity Surveying.
  • Tertiary qualification in engineering, building, construction or quantity surveying.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Effective written and visual communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in comprehension and interpretation of specifications and drawings.
  • Time management skills are essential.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to build constructive professional relationships
